Stixonspeed

Jan "Stix" Pfennig is not your average drummer. Trained at the prestigious Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, where he moved in 1999 to pursue jazz and popular music, Jan has spent over two decades building one of the most impressive live careers in German music. From chart-topping pop bands to gritty hip-hop stages, from European club tours to major festival headliners, he has done it all, and done it with authority.

His list of collaborations reads like a who's who of German music: Sido, Marteria, Kontra K, K.I.Z., Mal Élevé, Irie Revoltes, Mono & Nikitaman, Culcha Candela, Mark Forster, Adel Tawil and many more. On the international side he has shared stages with Dead Prez, Jeru the Damaja, Andrew Roachford, Jesse Boykins III, Jimmy Somerville and Nick Kershaw among others.

In 2017, Jan unleashed his solo project Stixonspeed, a high-energy live Drum & Bass act that puts a real drummer at the center of the dancefloor. Raw, tight and undeniably alive, Stixonspeed quickly became one of the most talked-about live acts in the German DNB scene.

Now Jan is taking things further with Stixonspeed 2.0. In close collaboration with FMG Records producer Forward and the Leipzig based label FMG Records, he has built an entirely new Ableton live set from the ground up, packed with Forward's own productions exported drumless in full studio quality, current bangers, remixes and exclusive FMG creations. The result is a live show that has no equal on German stages right now.

Beyond performing, Jan is also a respected educator. His rhythm concept Swagdrumming, published by AMA Publishing in 2015 and followed by a second volume in 2017, introduced his signature approach to Inbetween Shuffle and Quintuplet Drumming to drummers worldwide.
